"The vine is a wonderful thing."
"Jako Wine, a flamingo in a glass. A flamingo for a friend. This is the symbol of Jako Wine, the interesting project born in 2015 from an idea of Luca Berti, a Verona-based entrepreneur in the field of transport and logistics, who wanted to produce his own wine to share with friends. The project was more successful than expected, and the "flamingo" was born, a symbol of freedom but also a pop icon of Florida, Luca's second homeland. In the meantime, Severino Barzan (a well-known oenologist and wine selector, a fellow citizen of Luca's) became the brand ambassador, enriching the wine collection and above all raising the level of the product.

The idea of Jako Wine is to range between different territories, aiming more at stylistic coherence than the expression of a specific terroir. Luca started out in the Oltrepò Pavese area with an extremely expressive bubbly and now boasts eight different labels produced in limited quantities, for a total of 20 thousand bottles. We were lucky enough to attend a digital presentation of the latest two a few weeks ago. Tributo is a brut classic method millesimato made from Pinot Nero (90%) and Chardonnay grapes from Oltrepò Pavese, which after disgorging is finished with a secret liqueur de tirage, personally developed by Barzan, a great connoisseur of Champagne.

A rich wine, generous and at the same time elegant, with a fine perlage and a nose of ripe and caramelised fruit, ready for even daring pairings. The second wine is a white from the Montefiascone area, in Alto Lazio, and is called Campocasa. The grapes are Roscetto, a little-known indigenous grape that is, however, particularly suited to ageing. In fact, it has a long future ahead of it, although it is already tropical and toasty, very enjoyable."

A toast to a good first year for Jako Wine, the company established by Luca Berti, already at the head of Aerologistik, a logistics and warehouse management company for third parties based in the Verona area. Berti has rented vineyards in Oltrepò Pavese area, whose grapes are used to produce two Pinot Nero wines, with others in the Valpolicella area used to make two Rosso Veronese IGP wines and in Sona, where grapes are grown for two sparkling wines. Berti says, “The project began a few years ago, with the collaboration of a winemaker. The first harvest was in 2015 and this year we presented the first bottles.” To date, 9,500 bottles have been sold, half of them abroad in restaurants and luxury hotel chains: the target groups chosen by Jako Wine. “Quality and exclusivity are the characteristics of my wines,” comments Berti, - “I have met the request of a group of potential customers, which I have met travelling with my company over time.” Several professionals noticed the quality. In recent months, Pinot Grigio Griso Venexian produced in Sommacampagna received a Decanter Wine Asia Award, whereas our Spumante Metodo Classico Brut and Brut Rosè received a WineHunter Award at the Merano Wine Festival. “We have added a red IGT to our wine collection, made in collaboration with Severino Barzan, owner of the Antica Bottega del Vino, now owned by the Famiglie dell’Amarone. It is called Siresol 2015 and is produced in Negrar: the black and golden label bears the Severino Collezione logo.”

"I wanted to give shape to a passion of mine," says Berti, "answering the question of a specific target of potential customers that over time I have been able to meet by touring different countries through my company". Berti then rented vineyards in the Oltrepò Pavese with whose grapes two different Pinot noir are produced, others in Valpolicella for the production of two red Veronese PGI and sona where the grapes for two different Bubbles are born.
